322 billion. This is how many potential hours of labour agriculture and farmers lost due to high temperatures in 2023.
Bloomberg News recently featured Dhanush – Clim-Eat’s founder and Chief Climate Catalyst – in a piece on the disconnect between emissions from food systems and the financing food systems receive.
A Climate Focus analysis shows that while small family farmers grow more than one-third of the world’s food, just 14% of the over 9 billion dollars in international public climate finance for agriculture and land use was targeted at activities most relevant to them.
But it gets worse: less than 3% of all public climate finance goes into food systems. And lest not forget that food systems remain responsible for about one-third of global emissions.
“Instead of spending diplomatic efforts each year creating a new initiative which makes everyone look good, the focus needs to shift to getting money, technology and capacity to farmers,” said Dhanush on the topic.
