ASEAN’s Path to Climate-Resilient and Nutrition-Secure Food Systems

About The Event

The ASEAN region faces the pressing twin challenges of climate change and nutrition insecurity, both of which threaten food systems, livelihoods, and sustainable development. As climate impacts intensify, they exacerbate vulnerabilities in food production, supply chains, and access to healthy diets. Recognizing these risks, ASEAN Member States have committed to strengthening food security and nutrition through regional collaboration and policy integration on food systems.

Building on key commitments such as the ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on Strengthening Food Security and Nutrition in Response to Crises (Jakarta, September 2023), the ASEAN Climate Resilience Network (ASEAN-CRN), and the ASEAN Integrated Food Security (AIFS) Framework and Strategic Plan for ASEAN Cooperation in Food, Agriculture, and Forestry, this session will explore opportunities to leverage synergies between food security, nutrition, and climate action.

By bringing together policymakers, regional experts, and key stakeholders from agriculture, health, and environmental sectors, this session aims to elevate integrated approaches for resilience-building and position ASEAN’s leadership in sustainable agrifood system transformation.

Event Objective

  1. Showcase ASEAN-led examples of integrated food systems approaches that address the climate-nutrition nexus, advancing food and nutritional security, resilience and decarbonization goals, including examples from climate-smart agriculture, regenerative practices, and nature-based solutions.
  2. Foster cross-sectoral collaboration by connecting policymakers and experts from agriculture, health, and biodiversity sectors to explore shared opportunities for action.
  3. Amplify ASEAN’s voice and messages in global climate and food systems dialogues by building on key regional engagements in the run-up to COP30, including the UN
  4. Food Systems Summit (UNFSS), Nutrition for Growth (N4G), the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Global Gathering, the NAP Expo, the Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Science Conference, and ASEAN thematic working group events in 2025, to ensure these priorities are effectively represented at COP30 and beyond.
  5. Identify gaps and opportunities to secure the benefits of win-win solutions for food and climate resilience, particularly in ASEAN’s strategic planning and implementation beyond 2025.
