The Launch Event

About The Event

As Türkiye prepares to host COP31, global leaders and experts will gather in Ankara for the launch of the High-Level Panel for a Just Rural Transition, an initiative focused on aligning agricultural spending with climate and equity goals.

Convened by Clim-Eat, the Panel brings together former heads of state, senior officials from international organisations, and government representatives from across Africa, Latin America, and Türkiye. It will explore how governments can repurpose agricultural subsidies—estimated at $700 billion annually—toward more sustainable, climate-resilient farming systems.

The event responds to growing global momentum for a just transition that supports rural communities, particularly those most affected by climate change and rising input costs. With a large share of current agricultural support contributing to environmental degradation and social inequities, the Panel aims to elevate practical solutions and amplify the voices of farmers and rural stakeholders in shaping reform.

Marking a critical moment ahead of COP31, the launch sets the stage for coordinated leadership and action—identifying priority pathways, unlocking policy reform, and sending clear signals to decision-makers on how to accelerate a just rural transition through 2030.
