Clim-Eat and partners of the Voices for Just Rural Transitions project are pleased to share our latest discussion starter – Repurposing Public Policies for Smallholder Farmers and a Just Rural Transition – exploring how the repurposing of public support to food and agriculture in the Global South can increase food security, reduce poverty, and support rural livelihoods.
Looking at the current role and limitations of subsidy schemes across a diversity of countries, including Brazil, Indonesia, and Tanzania, this paper explores their impact on land, climate, and rural communities. It also examines the opportunities and challenges connected to repurposing efforts, and how an enabling policy environment may be designed to achieve a just food systems transition.
Read the paper and join the discussion on how we can tackle the repurposing of public support. Share your thoughts via email: holly@clim-eat.org
